It’s easy to forget that there are real people behind Supreme Court rulings. When the U.S. legalized same-sex marriage across the nation, a shy widower named Jim Obergefell was thrust into the media spotlight as the lead plaintiff in the case. But his win was bittersweet — he had been fighting to list his name as ‘surviving spouse’ on his husband’s death certificate.Samantha Stark’s film, A LEGACY OF DEVOTION is the big love story behind one of the biggest Supreme Court cases in history — told with great intimacy from the perspectives of Mr. Obergefell, his deceased husband’s aunt, their funeral director, and the local civil rights lawyer who asked to represent them.

As the presidential campaign heats up in 2016, we are still grappling with a Supreme Court case that said yes to Gay Marriage in the US by only one vote.  It has been said that the next President could have as many as three new court appointments and a number of candidates have weighed in on how they see the issue of Gay Marriage and how that appointment is part of the mix when it comes to the future of Gay Marriage.  In other words that historic decision could easily be overturned.Join these movers and shakers and be a part of the big ideas and discussions taking place in our floating salon.  Who knows? Your ideas might spark a story for a future film coming to your local theater soon.
