Is the Changing Cultural Zeitgeist Affecting Gender Identity Politics?

Debra A. Wilson made her national debut with her award-winning film BUTCH MYSTIQUE, exploring the lives of butch identified black lesbians, and screening in over 30 film festivals worldwide since its premiere in 2004.

BEYOND THE BUTCH MYSTIQUE is a work-in-progress follow up to that film and which reconnects with 5 individuals from the original film. Two of the then butch identified women now identify as transgender men.

The state of gender identity has evolved over the years but not without some conflict between transgender men and butch identified lesbians who feel pressure to identify as men, or assume the transgender label.
