Besides being a major influence in film, Vic is also being recognized for his many years as a pioneering LGBT activist. He became the first Executive Director of the Human Rights Campaign Fund in 1983 and subsequently co-founded the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund, the largest US LGBT political action committee. There are now more than 700 LGBT elected officials in the United States, largely thanks in part to the efforts of the Victory Fund.
Vic’s work in film and television also includes his role as Executive Producer of “Stonewall 25: Global Voices of Pride and Protest” an hour-long television special produced for the 25th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots. Vic was also instrumental in saving the “In The Life” Public Television series back in 1994 by single handedly bringing the show back into solvency, allowing it to continue for 17 more years on PBS.
Under President Obama, Vic became Counselor to openly gay Director of the Office of Personnel Management, John Berry, and was responsible for overseeing the implementation of LGBT reforms across the Federal Government.
