Pride of the Ocean in the News – Jamaica Day Program Announced – Meet Our Guests

Joseph Applebaum co-produced the feature-length documentary, REEL IN THE CLOSET, revealing LGBTQ life via never-before-seen home movies dating back to the 1930s. The film will screen on Pride of the Ocean.

Ari Chivukula lives at the intersection of art, law, and tech. Ari is a Digital Service Expert at the Pentagon, a law student and Co-Founder of the production company Queer Church, where Ari made the short film PIZZA ROLES.

 Christopher Dawes is a corporate product manager by day and filmmaker by night. He recently completed working on a feature length documentary and feature length narrative. Both films are currently playing the festival circuit.

David M. “Cubby” Hall  Editor and Motion Graphics Director of short films and feature length documentaries, will be screening his latest short film, IT STARTED WITH AN OLD SHOEBOX: SAVING LGBT HISTORY.

Keri Harshbarger is an award-winning Associate Producer and collaborated on the making of the short film WE STARTED WITH AN OLD SHOEBOX: SAVING LGBT HISTORY, which will be screened on Pride of the Ocean. 

HB Lozito is a filmmaker, freelance writer, and community activist, whose latest project chronicles the notoriously haunted Andrew’s Inn, a gay disco, bar, hotel & restaurant in the village of Bellows Falls, Vermont from 1973-1984.

Kareem Mortimer, who resides in the Bahamas, will be screening his award-winning drama CHILDREN OF GOD on the ship while docked in Jamaica, as well as conducting a seminar on LGBT visibility in the Caribbean. 

Ali Naro is a writer and lifelong movie buff. As a kid, she had always wanted to be a critic on Siskel and Ebert, and later inspired by The Celluloid Closet, Ali created the film website Movies OVER The Rainbow, where she has over 500 reviews (and counting…) of LGBT-themed movies, TV series and more.

Greta Schiller is an independent director and producer of documentaries for television, festivals, theatrical and educational distribution. Her career was launched in 1984 with her first documentary film, BEFORE STONEWALL.

Danny Tayara is currently Senior Programmer with Three Dollar Bill Cinema, Danny is Festival Director for TWIST: Seattle Queer Film Festival and assists in programming for Translations: Seattle Transgender Film Festival.

Andrea Weiss is the writer/director of Bones of Contention, a feature documentary delving into the historical memory movement in Spain and the unknown story of LGBT repression under the Franco dictatorship.
