We’re Heating Up Alaska with Carmelita Tropicana

Your Kunst Is Your Waffen

Alaska-Glacier-HDR-640x360carmelitatKunstWaffenYour Kunst Is Your Waffen is the short film that won the coveted Teddy Bear Award at the Berlin International Film Festival. Accepting the award was Carmelita Tropicana, the alter ego of Alina Troyano, a performance artist and writer who burst onto New York’s downtown performing arts scene as the spitfire Carmelita Tropicana. Bask in the heat of the fiery Carmelita as you sail past spectacular Alaska landmarks aboard the Celebrity Solstice®.16-LaLupeRouge

A tireless and prolific artist and filmmaker, you may have seen her sister Ela Troyano’s PBS documentary, La Lupe: Queen of Latin Soul, which was nominated for a prestigious Alma Award. The Troyano sisters love working together and their current projects include a collaboration with Sara Coffey, Founder and Director of Vermont Performance Lab, a performance incubator in the foothills of Vermont.

Far from the foothills of Vermont, the spectacular landmarks of Alaska await you in Pride of the Ocean’s exciting itinerary, including ports of call in Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, Victoria, and Seattle, not to mention the Tracy Arm Fjord, one of the few naturally occurring fjords in the United States.

Saturday, Mar. 14th | Miami (EMBARK) | Depart 4:00 PM

MiamiSouth Florida’s exciting, international city is much more than the gateway to Latin America. It’s one of the world’s most popular vacation destinations. With its world-renowned beaches, unrivaled nightlife, unique culinary experiences and Latin flavor, this is one place you’ll want to check out. Before departing from Miami, enjoy a tour that will highlight this exciting city.

Sunday, Mar. 15th | At Sea | Overnight | Overnight

At Sea 1Get to know the Celebrity Reflection as you enjoy its many amenities, spa treatments, delicious cuisine, and scintillating events during our overnight passage to Puerto Rico.

Monday, Mar. 16th | Cozumel, Mexico | Arrive 7:00 AM | Depart 4:00 PM

PuertoRicoThe Conquistadors first saw Mexico from the shores of Cozumel while searching for gold. Today, visitors to the island continue to seek out gold and silver jewelry in the shops of San Miguel while having a great time in its many local bars and restaurants. Plus, the waters around Cozumel’s sheltered coral reefs make this one of the best snorkeling areas in the world.

Tuesday, Mar. 17th | Grand Cayman | Arrive 10:00 AM | Depart 6:00 PM

Grand CaymanGeorge Town, Grand Cayman is one of a group of three magnificent tropical islands Christopher Columbus called “Las Tortugas” (the turtles) for the sea creatures he found in the ocean water. The designation did not endure, however, for on later maps the islands were labeled the Caimanau, the Carib Indian word for “crocodile.” The name “Caimanas” refers inaccurately to the iguanas native to the islands, which were perhaps at one point mistaken for crocodiles. Among other attractions, visitors to the island will enjoy learning about the turtles, visiting the town of Hell, exploring Seven-Mile Beach and enjoying the undersea world.

Wednesday, Mar. 18th | Ocho Rios, Jamaica | Arrive 8:00 AM | Depart 5:00 PM

JamaicaThe town of Ocho Rios, on Jamaica’s north coast, is edged with beautiful white-sand beaches and unbelievable landscapes. Contrary to popular belief, its name does not refer to “eight rivers,” the literal Spanish translation. It derives instead from the Spanish word “chorreras,” meaning “waterfalls,” of which Ocho Rios has many – including the famous and spectacular Dunn’s River Falls.

Thursday, Mar. 19th | Labadee, Haiti | Arrive 10:00 AM | Depart 5:00 PM

Only Royal Caribbean can take you to the private beach destination of Labadee. Our private paradise sits on the north coast of Haiti, surrounded by beautiful mountain slopes and exotic foliage. This exclusive destination offers pristine beaches, breathtaking scenery, incredible thrills and spectacular water activities. Regardless of where you go, you’ll find yourself embraced by the beautiful landscape. Labadee’s native charm, along with its natural beauty, make this a destination not to be missed. It’s impossible to choose just one thing that’s special about Labadee. The inviting beach, coral reefs and exciting amenities provide a perfect place to relax and have fun.

Friday, Mar. 20th | At Sea | Overnight

Get creative on the Celebrity Reflection. The Art Studio, our new venue on The Lawn Club, is home to two Master Artists from The ArtCenter/South Florida. They’ll host interactive classes and hands-on demonstrations in jewelry making, beading, sketching, painting, even drink mixology, culinary lessons, taste tests and chef-prepared dinners..

Saturday, Mar. 21st | Miami, FL | Arrive 7:00 AM | Disembarkation

MiamiTake a colorful tour to the world-famous Art-Deco District of South Beach. Then head to Brickell Avenue, the financial heart of Miami. Your tour takes you to the bohemian village of Coconut Grove and its lush vegetation. Finally, a drive through Coral Gables will take you past the Biltmore Hotel, the Venetian Pool and Miracle Mile.

Pride of the Ocean Lives Out Loud

Adding to the Sports and International programs of Pride of the Ocean’s Western Caribbean cruise is our Live Out Loud program, which tells a tapestry of stories, both documentary and fiction, both gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered, of people making the choice to live life to its fullest, sometimes under adverse circumstances.

Leading off the program is a delightful short film where a surprise visit, a bumbling bestie, and many years of tight-lipped deception cause EVERYONE’S ish to hit the fan. The chaos caused in this comedy of errors is full of sexy moments and tons of laughter. Secrets and Toys will warm your heart as you root for the lovers to make it through the storm.

Starring Dalila Ali Rajah (Cherry Bomb, Grey’s Anatomy, New Girl), Shelli Boone (Saints and Sinners, Entourage), Diane Sellers (Rules of Engagement, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Darryl Stephens (Noah’s Arc, Hot Guys with Guns), Doug Spearman (Noah’s Arc, Old Dogs & New Tricks), Jill Bennett (Second Shot, Dante’s Cove), Marc Samuel (General Hospital, Hot Guys with Guns), and Jason Stuart (Big Gay Love, Coffee Date).

CynthiaLubow-MaculineAndPregnant_640x360i

In Cynthia Lubow’s latest film, Masculine and Pregnant: Transcending Gender, a diverse group of masculine-of-center identified people speak to their experiences of gender expression, gender identity, attractions, parents, partners, pregnancy, breastfeeding, conflicts, parenting and hopes for the future through the lens of carrying a baby in their bodies. The film seeks to confront many assumptions about gender that limit understanding of gender, such as the assumption that there are only two genders, that only men have facial hair, that non-binary gender implies anything about sexual preference, that gender is static, that body shape determines gender, and that male identity and pregnancy are incompatible or incomprehensible.

MichelleWood_AndCounting_640x360

“What would you do if you expected to die?”, Michelle Wood asks us. Taking you on a sensory odyssey, “AND COUNTING” invites you to hear and visualize one man’s journey of living longer than he ever imagined possible with HIV.

We’d love to have you join us for Pride of the Ocean’s Live Out Loud program, and while on-line registration for this cruise has ended, cabins may still be available.

For available options, please call Geisha Cumberbatch at (703) 389-4617, or email Geisha at g.cumberbatch@cruiseone.com.
